A little more about the area....

The River Tech - a stone's throw from the Mas-de-la-Forge

This area offers something for everyone. For the sporting enthusiasts there is walking, cycling, Canyoning, horse riding, mountaineering and mountain treks. Amélie-les-Bains is part of Catalonia which is famed for its fine wines and food, tranquil atmosphere and sun drenched climate. There are plenty of street bars and little restaurants to enjoy as well as a casino for those feeling lucky.

The beautiful town of Céret is ten minutes away (by car). Only twenty minutes south (by car) are the seaside towns running into Spain. The drive along the twisting coastal road features absolutely stunning views. Argelès-sur-mer is an attractive and lively old seaside town with long stretches of sandy beaches. Collioure is one of the best kept secrets of the coast where the Pyrenees tumble into the sea, creating a series of beautiful bays and rocky headlands which gives this stretch of coast its unique character.

This area has a fabulous light, popular with artists and photographers, consequently it has attracted artists throughout the years including Picasso, Matisse, Chagill and Salvador Dali. Art lovers will enjoy the Museum of Modern Art in Ceret and the Dali museum in nearby Figueres (35 minutes by car).

The more adventurous looking for a lively day out can reach Barcelona in just under two hours. A lunchtime stroll along 'Las Ramblas' is an experience not to be missed. For the serious shoppers there is always Perpignan, a large vibrant Catalan city (35 minutes by car).
