The Thermal Spas of
Amélie-les-Bains
Amélie-les-Bains is a little paradise for patients
taking 'les soins' (the treatments). It's natural thermal spring waters
(up to 62 degrees at source) are rumoured to have magical curative properties.
Numerous sources flow down into the resort of Amélie-les-Bains
supplying more than a million litres of thermal water per day. This natural
water rich in sulphur, sodium chloride and carbonates is famed in the
treatment of respiratory and rheumatic disorders. In France patients will
be prescribed 'les soins' by their doctors for a realistic alternative
to alleviate a wide range of adverse medical conditions. It is only recently
that the spas have started offering relaxation and pampering packages
into the bargain at very reasonable prices.
There are two spas presently open in Amélie-les-Bains;
the thermal baths of Mondony and the Roman thermal baths.
Les Thermes du Mondony
This is the busier of the two buildings with up to 2,500 customers
per day using its facilities. Open from 6 O'clock in the morning
until 5 O'clock in the evening, it is a comparatively modern building
providing all the standard services.
Les Thermes Romains
This spa was built upon the ancient site of the Roman baths and remains
a classified building. It is the luxury version of the two spas and provides
visitors with soft towels and general pampering of the highest order.
There are a wide range of relaxation and health treatments to choose
from at the spas so below I have given just a couple of examples with
prices:-
Aqua Relax at Les Thermes Romaines
10-15 minutes in a swimming pool with subaquatic jets
followed by
Mud Bath (spa water and kaolin) in which your body is virtually weightless.
Treatments:- Monday - Saturdays 14.00 or 15.00 (no appointment necessary)
